About the Program

The presentation opens with a review of the early 2000’s Grove/Prince study Round Hole/Square Peg findings of high-net worth clients opens the presentation, exploring the reasons clients give for not following-through with rather time-consuming and detailed estate plans. The salient takeaway is that wealthy individuals are not enthused about the plans that have been designed because little, to no effort was made to identify their values and translate them into a meaningful legacy.

Anecdotally, many advisors report a new confidence in “going there” with their clients regarding this issue-area interests, resulting in the development of dynamic and exciting results, including less client-procrastination, and even referrals.

So, what is meant by “Tiering” of Family and Philanthropic Goals? The magic of advanced charitable gift planning is discovering ways people can make dramatic, impactful charitable gifts without necessarily reducing what they intend for their heirs. Using attorney and planned giving pioneer Charles Schultz’ popular concept of “A Right Inheritance”, this presentation explores just how to do so. First, the audience is led through an easy donor exercise of identifying three tiers of “right inheritances” for heirs: 1) Initial Inheritance; 2) Additional Lifestyle; and 3) Supplemental/Future Inheritance. Then Marc explores how to combine these inheritance goals with a similar “tiering” of philanthropic ones.
